Hello again dear Elt Days readers. My final exams are over and I'm happy to have the time to read books and watch movies. I have been reading 'Böyle Söyledi Zerdüşt' for some time and I have finally finished it today. I'm planning to read 1984 by George Orwell next. What are you reading lately? I hope you spare time for reading :)   Today, I will tell you about the last meeting of our 21st Century Skills Training. After we had completed our websites, we met in a Zoom meeting with the rest of the participants, Melda Teacher and Dilek Teacher. I was so excited to present our website to my friends and teachers. Our group, Chamber of Mercury, started the presentation and I was both happy and proud to see that everyone loved our work. Hard work really pays off... Especially, the comments from Dilek Teacher means a lot to me because I admire her knowledge.   The other groups have also presented their websites, and all of them are perfect in their areas of interest. I felt so

Update on 21st Century Skills Training

Hello everyone, it has been so long since I last posted here, so I want to give you an update on how the project is going. We, as Chamber of Mercury, have reviewed the literature to learn what has been done on our topic, and what are the problems and how we can solve them. We had long hours of Zoom meetings, improving our outline and drawing a road-map.  Firstly, we shared related articles on Dropbox , and we have read each of them. Then, we arranged a Zoom meeting. We wanted to write each paper together but we have realized that it would be hard for everyone to be available at the same time, so we shared roles. I volunteered to be in charge of designing the website because I love dealing with details. Of course, I had more duties. Musa and I have written 'Introduction and Suggestions' parts together on endless Zoom meetings. Mehmet has written the 'Problems and Causes' part and Yeliz has written the 'Historical Background' part.     After the papers were done,

Welcome again dear ELT Days followers. How is it going? I hope you are well and healthy. As for me, nothing has changed, finals have come and I'm studying right now. Today's post will be about the 21st Century Teacher Training project outline that I have told you about last week.       As Chamber of Mercury, we have arranged a zoom meeting to talk about the project outline. We have talked about the points that Melda Teacher said and discussed how we can improve our topic and we have decided to focus on 'Gender Inclusive Language Education'. We wanted our website to be a guideline for teachers to create a non-discriminative learning environment where every student is included in the class activities no matter how they prefer to perform their genders. Firstly, we will try to distinguish what is gender and sex, and then we will give background information about feminist and queer approaches. After the information part, we will state the problems and causes, then f

Helloo, dear followers... How do you feel lately? Is everything fine? I have really been busy for these 2 weeks and I can't wait for the winter break. You may wonder why I put the photo above. Even though I'm a winter person, in these chaotic Covid-19 times, I want to escape to a quiet, peaceful place at the seaside. Although I might seem depressed at the beginning.  I'm excited to tell you about what I have done in the past week.        As you know, we have finished the 21st Century Project lessons last week and we started to plan our group project. Our aim in this project is to detect a problem or lack for the future of ELT and create a web page as a guideline for other people. In our group, we have discussed what we can do, what was the most challenging thing when we started learning English. We brainstormed and tried to adapt these thoughts but we couldn't because we haven't searched enough on the m

Choosing the Best Material - A sample for teachers

Good morning everyone :)) I hope you are all good. My thick schedule is still at full speed, but I stopped by to give you the latest news about our 21st Century Teacher Training. Unfortunately, last Friday was our final online lesson, so we have completed the first pace of the training. However, we have arranged a weekly meeting to share our process on the project and a little chit-chat: Tea&Talk. I look forward to joining it. Now, let me inform you about our last session.      We have started with the discussion part about the 5th reflection questions. I quite like the discussion parts because we get the chance to talk with our friends, which is a luxury in these Coronavirus days. Our discussion was based on the article Teaching Material in EIL by Matsuda. The writer presents the idea that each material should be selected with a great deal of consideration. They need to contain diverse representations of cultures, accents, visuals, and ideologies. We need to enrich their wor

Helllo again dear followers!! I am sorry to be late this week, I have been on power mode to catch up with everything. Anyways, I am so much excited to tell you about last week's 21st Century Skills course. There are much to learn in this week's post, so get your coffee and be ready to enlightened!    We have started our session with Melda teacher's presentation of 6 different websites. 2 of them are familiar to you, which are  Animoto ,  Thinglink . You can check them again if you want to remind yourselves. The others were also new for me.  Edpuzzle : Actually, I have used Edpuzzle before when Melda teacher assigned us with an interactive video of David Crystal. Edpuzzle enables you to comprehend the target topic while watching the video through pop-up questions. These questions can be open-ended, or multiple choice, or true/false. I have quite liked this one because it keeps students occupied while watching the video. Renderforest : This one enables you to create vid

Are you a Digital Native or an Immigrant?

Resim
How is it going, friends? I feel so recharged thanks to these sunny days and I am so ready to tell you about the last lesson of 21st Teacher Training.    At the first part of the lesson, we have discussed the terms "technophobe, digital native and digital immigrant" within our groups. Technophobe is the term used for someone who is afraid of new technologies. The reason for that kind of a phobia may be a bad experience that the person had online.  Most of us are born into a digital world where everything is done online, which makes us a digital native. However, older people who have learnt digital terms, tools and websites at older ages, which is called digital immigrants. They may be learnt about digital world because the professional life demands employees to be digital literate so that they can  improve their work, relations, and products.     Later on, we have discussed about digital problems that we may face with and what can be done to minimize them to some extent. O
