Creating Interactive Canvases

How are you dear Elt Days followers? I hope you are healthy and happy. I have been pretty busy with my midterms, so I am a little tired. However, today I am here with lots of beneficial information. 

As you know, I am currently on a project and we had our second meeting on Friday via Zoom. I must say, I had a lot of fun! 

At the first session of the meeting, we have been introduced a website called Linoit. It gives you a blank canvas, and then you can stick as many as note cards with your friends, students,etc. Melda teacher had already created a board for us and she wanted us to brainstorm about what could be the story behind that picture. I wanted to show it to you guys but unfortunately I could not find it online. After thinking for a while, she divided us into groups and send us to private rooms to write a story for that picture. She gave us 15 minutes, I guess. But it was not enough of course... It was time consuming to get organised and start writing down some ideas. But once we decided 5 words that we would used, we finished writing the story pretty fast. When we returned to the main room, we saw what other groups have written. Then, she played a song, which I have heard before but I could not remember the name of it. When the song was over, She sent us back to our group rooms and wanted us to imagine a video clip for that song. After returning to our main room, we examined other ideas and Melda teacher showed us the original video clip. 

After the break, we had played a game, Who is the murderer? As the name suggests, there was a murder and we were supposed to find out the murderer by tracking down the evidences. Before the session started, Melda teacher had already given us some cards, written some information about each character and the house plan where the murder took place. She gave us 20 minutes and send us to private rooms. We have read our characters one by one and tried to find out the murderer. It was an entertaining game.I don't know if you liked the activities, but I definitely plan to use these in my classes. 

At the last session, Melda teacher wanted us to discuss alternative approaches to ELT based on Global English language teaching. We had answered some reflection questions about the topic and shared personal opinions. And so, we had ended our session. We will take break for a week because of our mind terms, so I wont be uploading anything next week.

Update on 21st Century Skills Training

 Hello everyone, it has been so long since I last posted here, so I want to give you an update on how the project is going. We, as Chamber of Mercury, have reviewed the literature to learn what has been done on our topic, and what are the problems and how we can solve them. We had long hours of Zoom meetings, improving our outline and drawing a road-map.  Firstly, we shared related articles on Dropbox , and we have read each of them. Then, we arranged a Zoom meeting. We wanted to write each paper together but we have realized that it would be hard for everyone to be available at the same time, so we shared roles. I volunteered to be in charge of designing the website because I love dealing with details. Of course, I had more duties. Musa and I have written 'Introduction and Suggestions' parts together on endless Zoom meetings. Mehmet has written the 'Problems and Causes' part and Yeliz has written the 'Historical Background' part.     After the papers were done,

Are you a Digital Native or an Immigrant?

   How is it going, friends? I feel so recharged thanks to these sunny days and I am so ready to tell you about the last lesson of 21st Teacher Training.    At the first part of the lesson, we have discussed the terms "technophobe, digital native and digital immigrant" within our groups. Technophobe is the term used for someone who is afraid of new technologies. The reason for that kind of a phobia may be a bad experience that the person had online.  Most of us are born into a digital world where everything is done online, which makes us a digital native. However, older people who have learnt digital terms, tools and websites at older ages, which is called digital immigrants. They may be learnt about digital world because the professional life demands employees to be digital literate so that they can  improve their work, relations, and products.     Later on, we have discussed about digital problems that we may face with and what can be done to minimize them to some extent.          Welcome again dear ELT Days followers. How is it going? I hope you are well and healthy. As for me, nothing has changed, finals have come and I'm studying right now. Today's post will be about the 21st Century Teacher Training project outline that I have told you about last week.       As Chamber of Mercury, we have arranged a zoom meeting to talk about the project outline. We have talked about the points that Melda Teacher said and discussed how we can improve our topic and we have decided to focus on 'Gender Inclusive Language Education'. We wanted our website to be a guideline for teachers to create a non-discriminative learning environment where every student is included in the class activities no matter how they prefer to perform their genders. Firstly, we will try to distinguish what is gender and sex, and then we will give background information about feminist and queer approaches.
